{"id":27177,"date":"2021-12-28T18:15:04","date_gmt":"2021-12-28T18:15:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjstudents.com\/?p=27177"},"modified":"2021-12-28T18:15:04","modified_gmt":"2021-12-28T18:15:04","slug":"michel-foucaults-speech-on-notion-of-parresia-published-for-persian-readers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjstudents.com\/index.php\/2021\/12\/28\/michel-foucaults-speech-on-notion-of-parresia-published-for-persian-readers\/","title":{"rendered":"Michel Foucault\u2019s speech on notion of parresia published for Persian readers\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"summary\">TEHRAN \u2013 \u201cThe Government of Self and Others\u201d, which covers the speeches French philosopher and writer Michel Foucault made at the Coll\u00e8ge de France between 1982 and 1983, has been published in Persian.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Cheshmeh is the publisher of the book rendered into Persian by Seyyed Mohammad-Javad Seyyedi.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">The book launches an inquiry into the notion of parresia and continues his rereading of ancient philosophy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Through the study of this notion of truth-telling, of speaking out freely, Foucault re-examines Greek citizenship, showing how the courage of the truth forms the forgotten ethical basis of Athenian democracy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">The figure of the philosopher king, the condemnation of writing, and Socrates\u2019 rejection of political involvement are some of the many topics of ancient philosophy revisited here.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Many reviews have been written for the book in the world\u2019s major magazines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\u201c[Foucault] has an alert and sensitive mind that can ignore the familiar surfaces of established intellectual codes and ask new questions\u2026. [He] gives dramatic quality to the movement of culture,\u201d the New York Review of Books wrote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\u201cFoucault is quite central to our sense of where we are,\u201d the Nation commented.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\u201cThese lectures offer important insights into the evolution of the primary focus of Foucault\u2019s later work &#8211; the relationship between power and knowledge,\u201d Library Journal wrote.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\u201cIdeas spark off nearly every page\u2026 The words may have been spoken in [the 1970s] but they seem as alive and relevant as if they had been written yesterday.\u201d Bookforum said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Foucault\u2019s theories primarily address the relationship between power and knowledge, and how they are used as a form of social control through societal institutions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Though often cited as a structuralist and postmodernist, Foucault rejected these labels.
