Walker <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/11\/15\/allyn-walker-says-attraction-to-children-isnt-immoral\/\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a>, \u201cWe have a tendency to want to categorize people with these attractions as evil or morally corrupt,\u201d and that when people \u201chear the term \u2018pedophile,\u2019 they automatically assume that it means a sex offender, and that isn\u2019t true.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after this interview, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wavy.com\/news\/local-news\/norfolk\/odu-puts-assistant-professor-on-leave-after-controversial-research-on-pedophilia-prompts-safety-concerns\/\" rel=\"noopener\">students<\/a> at Old Dominion protested over the professor\u2019s attempt to obfuscate the nature of sexual predators. Although the university <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/582139-virginia-professor-who-studied-adults-who-are-sexually-attracted-to\" rel=\"noopener\">furloughed<\/a> Walker, the professor continued to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/state-watch\/582139-virginia-professor-who-studied-adults-who-are-sexually-attracted-to?rl=1\" rel=\"noopener\">defend<\/a> his stance while attacking his critics as hostile to academic freedom and misguided by \u201crightwing media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Walker incident is not a standalone event. In fact, his <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ucpress.edu\/book\/9780520306363\/a-long-dark-shadow\" rel=\"noopener\">advocacy<\/a> for pedophiles highlights the crisis that critical theory poses for higher education, as it attempts to dismantle every social taboo and normalize every form of immoral conduct.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-nypost-small-post\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/a-long-dark-shadow.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"231\" height=\"346\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/a-long-dark-shadow.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=231\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20667107\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/a-long-dark-shadow.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=462 462w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/a-long-dark-shadow.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=346 346w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/a-long-dark-shadow.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=231 231w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/a-long-dark-shadow.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=115 115w, https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/12\/a-long-dark-shadow.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 231px) 100vw, 231px\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>In his book, \u201c<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ucpress.edu\/book\/9780520306363\/a-long-dark-shadow\" rel=\"noopener\">A Long, Dark Shadow: Minor-Attracted People and Their Pursuit of Dignity<\/a>,\u201d published by the University of California press, Walker derives \u201cMAPs\u201d as a new term for pedophiles from a group called <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.b4uact.org\/about-us\/\" rel=\"noopener\">B4U-ACT<\/a>. Dedicated to \u201ccompassionate assistance\u201d in the form of therapy and advocacy for pedophiles, the group also publishes its own research <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.b4uact.org\/b4qr\/\" rel=\"noopener\">journal<\/a>. In the introduction of \u201cA Long, Dark Shadow,\u201d Walker attempts to explain the difference between a \u201cminor-attracted person\u201d and pedophile by swapping words based on the stigma they carry.\u00a0 On the first page of the book, Walker states that \u201cB4U-ACT uses the term MAPs, rather than the term \u2018pedophile,\u2019 to decrease stigma against this group.\u201d Walker adopts the same term for the same reason.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The politics of sexual identity permeate the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/content.ucpress.edu\/title\/9780520306363\/9780520306363_intro.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">introduction<\/a> of \u201cA Long Dark Shadow.\u201d There, Walker advocates for the inclusion of MAPs as part of the larger LGBT community by approaching attraction to minors as an orientation, and stating that \u201cthe fact of children\u2019s inability to consent to sex is irrelevant to the application of the term \u2018sexual orientation\u2019 towards attractions to minors.\u201d Walker tacitly recognizes the threat that pedophiles pose, while also focusing on \u201ccoping methods\u201d and \u201cstrategies for non-offending\u201d MAPs.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Redefinition carries consequences, and the left boasts a long history of redefining words to shatter traditional beliefs. This is the basic move of the left \u2014 an activity can be prohibited, but a group identity possesses uncompromisable rights. To establish a \u201cMAP\u201d identity is to establish rights for pedophiles \u2014 and once pedophiles have rights, nothing will be allowed to contravene those rights. MAPs will gain the right to work in schools, to act as they will with children age 17, age 16 . . . and so on.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that \u201cA Long Dark Shadow\u201d passed peer review and was published by a reputable academic press. Academia\u2019s ideological consensus has already shifted toward acceptance of pedophilia. K-12 schools already <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/education\/2021\/11\/23\/fairfax-schools-gender-queer-lawn-boy\/\" rel=\"noopener\">allow<\/a> for depictions of child sexuality under the guise of equity, despite a considerable <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/fairfax-mom-confronts-school-board-over-graphic-sexual-materials-in-school\" rel=\"noopener\">resistance<\/a> by parents. But his success in persuading colleagues that his work met all applicable standards for legitimate research, and his further success in having his findings published by one of the most important university presses in the country, demonstrate that the barriers in academe to his ideas are flimsy.
