The event will be held at the Institute of Black Culture, 1510 West University Ave.,\u00a0from 12 to 1 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><strong>Killing King Again: Race, Power and the cost of unfulfilled dreams<\/strong> \u2014\u00a0Guest speaker Charles Wesley McKinney\u00a0Jr. will discuss the U.S. Capital insurrection on\u00a0Jan. 6, 2021,\u00a0and how no one referenced King&#8217;s call to non-violence two weeks before MLK day. The event will take place at Pugh Hall,\u00a0296 Buckman Drive,\u00a0from 6 to 7:30 p.m.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_h2\">Friday, Jan.\u00a014<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/story\/news\/guardian\/2022\/01\/11\/courthouse-to-be-renamed-in-honor-of-the-late-u-s-district-judge-stephan-p-mickle\/9110200002\/\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Alachua County Criminal Justice Center\u00a0will be renamed\u00a0to the Stephan P. Mickle Courthouse.<\/a> Alachua County Courthouse, 220 South Main St., Gainesville. Event begins at 12 p.m.<\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The event will feature speakers from\u00a0Alachua\u00a0County, the city of Gainesville, and the judiciary as well as music, a color guard and words\u00a0of\u00a0inspiration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Alachua\u00a0County\u00a0middle and high school students participated in an essay\/poetry contest based on a theme pertaining to Judge\u00a0Mickle\u2019s impact on history, society, and the future. The winner of this year\u2019s contest will share their essay during the ceremony. The contest, promoted through the\u00a0Alachua\u00a0County\u00a0school system, will be an annual event.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gnt_em gnt_em_anc\" id=\"gnt_atomsnc\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-method=\"loadAnc\" aria-label=\"Newsletter signup form\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cIt is a tremendous honor to see the courthouse named after my father,\u201d said his daughter Stephanie\u00a0Mickle, in a press release from the county. \u201cIt&#8217;s important for others to be able to see themselves in his life.
