Bates\u2019 source for that is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/opinion\/columnists\/dan-rodricks\/bs-md-rodricks-0614-20200612-7rcrcrljufe2lhbwabo7vp6ray-story.html\" rel=\"noopener\">the same one I cited<\/a> in this column a couple of years ago \u2014 a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jhsph.edu\/research\/centers-and-institutes\/johns-hopkins-center-for-gun-violence-prevention-and-policy\/_docs\/reducing-violence-and-building-trust-gun-center-report-june-4-2020.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\">report from the Center for Gun Policy and Research<\/a> at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The report found that, out of 10,600 cases involving gun charges, between May 2015 through May 2019, only 40% resulted in convictions, guilty pleas or a defendant being placed on probation for having or using an illegal gun.
