{"id":29668,"date":"2022-03-13T20:02:14","date_gmt":"2022-03-13T20:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjstudents.com\/?p=29668"},"modified":"2022-03-13T20:02:14","modified_gmt":"2022-03-13T20:02:14","slug":"glyndwr-hosts-crime-scene-investigation-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjstudents.com\/index.php\/2022\/03\/13\/glyndwr-hosts-crime-scene-investigation-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Glyndwr hosts Crime Scene Investigation Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<\/p>\n<p>\n  Crime Scene Investigation Day has returned to Glyndwr University campus in a hybrid format.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Prior to the pandemic, the Plas Coch campus would host a \u2018crime\u2019 played out and investigated on-site however last year it was held online.\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"subscription-content\">\n<p>\n  A relaxing of restrictions this year allowed students and staff to return on-site, so the event took place both virtually and on campus.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  This year\u2019s event saw students on the Professional Policing course tackle Operation Zodiac, where they were tasked with analysing four suspicious deaths which appeared to have cryptic links to the star signs. Forensic Science students were also involved in the investigations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  With the guidance of DCI Alun Oldfield, who has led many major investigations for North Wales Police, they were able to watch pre-recorded interviews with the suspects as portrayed by Performing Arts students, then discuss associations around each one, forming a different hypothesis based on motive, opportunity, and personality,\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.leaderlive.co.uk\/resources\/images\/13569409.jpg?type=article-full\" title=\"The Leader: Wrexham Glyndwr\u2019s Crime Scene Day took place online and on-campus this year\" alt=\"The Leader: Wrexham Glyndwr\u2019s Crime Scene Day took place online and on-campus this year\" class=\"editor-image\"\/><span class=\"inline-image-caption\">Wrexham Glyndwr\u2019s Crime Scene Day took place online and on-campus this year <\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  As they tried to crack the cases, the students also took part in a \u2018talking heads\u2019 sessions with Criminology and Criminal Justice Lecturer Dr. Caroline Gordon, Law Lecturer Dylan Rhys Jones, Crown Prosecution Service solicitor Lucy Williams, and Psychology Lecturer Dr. Shubha Sreenivas, before the killer was revealed by the Criminology Society online later that evening.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Andrew Crawford, Professional Policing Lecturer, said he was delighted to see Crime Scene Day return in its hybrid format, and is already looking forward to bringing it fully back to campus next year.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He said: \u201cCrime Scene Day brings together a number of different Degree courses from across the whole University and gives students an immersive learning experience.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cIt provides them with an opportunity to have fun whilst putting theory into practice and breaks down barriers.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  He added: \u201cWe are very grateful for the assistance provided by North Wales Police, DCI Alun Oldfield, and Lucy Williams from the Crown Prosecution Service.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.leaderlive.co.uk\/resources\/images\/13569408.jpg?type=article-full\" title=\"The Leader: Wrexham Glyndwr\u2019s Crime Scene Day took place online and on-campus this year\" alt=\"The Leader: Wrexham Glyndwr\u2019s Crime Scene Day took place online and on-campus this year\" class=\"editor-image\"\/><span class=\"inline-image-caption\">Wrexham Glyndwr\u2019s Crime Scene Day took place online and on-campus this year <\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Amy Rattenbury, Senior Lecturer in Forensic Science at Wrexham Glyndwr University, said: \u201cThe CSI day event is a great opportunity for our final year BSc (Hons) Forensic Science students to get a real appreciation of how their role fits into a larger investigation.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe opportunity to work with experienced professionals and to follow a case through from crime scene to courtroom is great practice for the types of careers they will go into.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leaderlive.co.uk\/news\/19969507.glyndwr-offers-free-one-day-football-coaching-course-easter\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Free one-day football coaching course for those aged 15-16<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leaderlive.co.uk\/news\/19905576.glyndwr-university-revamp-wrexhams-historic-arts-school-building\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s inside the revamped historic Arts School building in Wrexham town centre<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leaderlive.co.uk\/news\/19911191.glyndwr-university-students-help-hidden-holt-exhibition\/\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;Hidden Holt&#8217;
