class=\"gnt_ar_sh_li\">He was there caring for his sick partner and ‘refused to leave her bedside,’ family say.<\/li>\n<li class=\"gnt_ar_sh_li\">Hill was an American lecturer who grew up in Minnesota and taught in Ukraine and throughout Europe for more than 20 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Even as Russian <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/in-depth\/graphics\/2022\/02\/24\/ukraine-invasion-russia-attack-map-guide\/6925181001\/\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">forces massed on the border<\/a> with Ukraine and<strong\/> the U.S. government urged Americans to leave the country, Jimmy Hill didn’t flee.\u00a0Instead, he drove even closer to Russian territory\u00a0in search of treatment for his life partner, who was sick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">James Whitney Hill, 67, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/story\/news\/nation\/2022\/03\/18\/american-jimmy-hill-killed-ukraine-civilian-casualties\/7088802001\/\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">was
