<\/p>\nAmerican Gateways ensures access to the justice system for low-income immigrants. We serve 23 counties in Central Texas and provide high-quality legal representation and accurate information about what is happening in our immigration system.<\/p>\n
What is the mission of American Gateways?<\/strong><\/h4>\nOur mission is to champion the dignity and human rights of immigrants, refugees and survivors of persecution, torture, conflict and human trafficking through exceptional immigration legal services at no or low cost, education and advocacy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nWhat community work are you most proud of?<\/strong><\/h4>\nWe are most proud of our ability to give low-income immigrants the access to the justice system that they deserve. The high cost of legal representation is a huge barrier that prevents many from seeking help and applying for the relief that they qualify for. American Gateways takes away that barrier. One of the best examples of how we do this work are our legal clinics, which respond to the changing needs of the immigrant community and allow us not only to serve many more individuals, but to involve volunteers and partner organizations in our work. Our naturalization clinics have helped close to 100 individuals in one day apply for their U.S. citizenship. Our next clinic will be held on May 7 in San Antonio. We have also had DACA clinics to help young DREAMers, clinics for those seeking Temporary Protected Status, and most recently, an asylum clinic to help Afghan families that have relocated to the U.S.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nWhat upcoming projects are you looking forward to?<\/strong><\/h4>\nWe are looking forward to sharing more about our work and how it impacts all of us at our next Immigrant Justice Luncheon this fall.
