While she’s set to star in the upcoming\u00a0Flash<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>movie and has continued to appear as Erin Quinn,\u00a0The Five\u00a0<\/em>placed Jackson in a very different genre. The Harlan Coben mystery series starring talents like\u00a0Sarah Solemani and\u00a0O-T Fagbenle, saw Saoirse-Monica Jackson portray Sasha, as the case of the missing teenagers slowly unraveled. The show is gripping.<\/p>\n

Outside of\u00a0Derry Girls,\u00a0<\/em>fans may want to check out\u00a0Boys From County Hell\u00a0<\/em>where she portrays\u00a0Claire McCann. Part comedy, part horror, this Irish indie film sees a crew of workers having to survive against a vampire… and their consistent bickering. It plays to the best parts of the genre and allows Harland to jump into something a little more action-packed.<\/p>\n

Nicola Coughlan: Bridgerton (2020-Present)<\/h2>\n

Nicola Coughlan’s role in\u00a0Derry Girls\u00a0<\/em>is a little more complex than most and she’s perhaps received the most interesting arc. Playing\u00a0Clare Devlin, not only is she the brightest of the bunch and therefore the one trying to get them out of trouble but she’s also been able to explore her sexuality, identifying as part of the LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n

Of course, with themes of religion and sexuality mixing there, it takes a talented actor to bring all of that to the screen and still deliver humor in spades. Perhaps that’s why Coughlan has also had such success as\u00a0Penelope Featherington and Lady\u00a0Whistledown in\u00a0Bridgerton<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>She’s arguably one of the many high points of the series as fans will already know, leading a double life in the shadows.<\/p>\n

Jamie-Lee O’Donnell: Screw (2022)<\/h2>\n

Jamie-Lee O’Donnell plays the rebel of the group,\u00a0Michelle Mallon in\u00a0Derry Girls.\u00a0<\/em>She’s always the first to leap head-first into trouble and doesn’t mince her words. Somehow, she’s also the most mature of the group, with O’Donnell beautifully playing all of those nuances.<\/p>\n

The character is certainly a contrast to the prison officer\u00a0Rose Gill that she portrays in\u00a0Screw.\u00a0<\/em>The British series set within the criminal justice system sees O’Donnell bounce off of the talented\u00a0Nina Sosanya, as she sets about questioning the very workings of the corrupt role she’s landed herself in.<\/p>\n

Siobh\u00e1n McSweeney: The Fall (2013-2014)<\/h2>\n

Siobh\u00e1n McSweeney will be best known to watchers of\u00a0Derry Girls\u00a0<\/em>as Sister Michael. Indeed, the character\u00a0has some of the best quotes of the series<\/a>, with McSweeney’s straight reading of the lines somehow bringing even more humor to the situation. Her dry and sarcastic wit is second to none.<\/p>\n

Sister Michael is far removed from McSweeney’s part in\u00a0The Fall<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>where she portrayed\u00a0Mary McCurdy. As an experienced detective, McCurdy was drawn into the web of deceit and crime at the heart of this thriller series centered around a serial killer. It’s well worth checking out and boasts\u00a0Gillian Anderson and\u00a0Jamie Dornan alongside\u00a0Siobh\u00e1n McSweeney’s brilliant work.<\/p>\n

Dylan Llewellyn: Dodo (2021-Present)<\/h2>\n

He plays up to any given situation well and\u00a0has a perfect handle on his character.<\/p>\n

It’s his voice acting talent that may have gone unnoticed although younger audiences might already be familiar with his work. Dylan Llewelyn has also lent his voice to the lead role of\u00a0Joe Connolly in\u00a0the British animated series\u00a0Dodo.\u00a0<\/em>It’s a smaller show set in a secondary school although features the work of comedian Mark Watson and\u00a0Game Of Thrones<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>alumnus Ellie Kendrick.<\/p>\n

Of course in both the context of Irish media and further afield, Ian McElhinney has built up a tremendous career. International audiences know him as the loyal and courageous\u00a0Barristan Selmy in\u00a0Game Of Thrones.\u00a0<\/em>His character was one of principle; a former Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, he would later go on to serve Daenerys Targaryen.<\/p>\n

Tommy Tiernan: Small Potatoes (1999-2001)<\/h2>\n

Tommy Tiernan is a highlight of the Irish comedy circuit and has a long history of starring in televised sitcoms and other sketch-based shows. As the loveable albeit slightly grouchy dad of\u00a0Derry Girls,\u00a0<\/em>Tommy brings something unique to the family dynamic.<\/p>\n

For those searching for a piece of underrated comedy that starred some big names alongside Tommy Tiernan, then\u00a0Small Potatoes\u00a0<\/em>is an interesting find. Playing the lead Ed Hewitt, he would find himself in all sorts of chaos working in a video store, alongside other standups like\u00a0Omid Djalili and\u00a0Tony Way.<\/p>\n

The actor has such a great filmography including\u00a0The Fall\u00a0<\/em>and even\u00a0Eastenders.\u00a0<\/em>It’s\u00a0Farr\u00a0<\/em>that might be something to look out for where O’Neill plays Jennifer Conroy. The\u00a0dramatic miniseries follows a police officer who has to juggle his work and family life while investigating some of the most horrific crimes in his city.<\/p>\n

Kathy Kiera Clarke: Ice Cream Girls (2013)<\/h2>\n

Rounding out the family in\u00a0Derry Girls\u00a0<\/em>is Kathy Kiera Clarke, who portrays Erin’s aunt and Orla’s mother,\u00a0Sarah McCool. She’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, but that’s her charm. Her misinterpretation of events is sure to liven up any situation.<\/p>\n

Clarke’s work on the stage and screen is respectable, but\u00a0Ice Cream Girls\u00a0<\/em>stands out amongst the rest. Clarke plays Marlene in the dramatic miniseries, which looks at two women who are accused of the murder of a teacher. The teenage crime story is edge-of-the-seat stuff and a great display of Kathy Kiera Clarke’s more serious talents.<\/p>\n
