In the following decade a series of white-collar trials involving executives from <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/anglo-irish-banks-former-senior-bosses-to-escape-further-scrutiny-as-central-bank-shelves-investigation-hzvl5rkt9\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 ivlzOw\" rel=\"noopener\">Anglo Irish Bank<\/a> and Irish Life &amp; Permanent broke that record, with some cases lasting over 80 days. The trial of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/bankrupt-ex-anglo-irish-bank-chairman-sean-fitzpatrick-wins-fight-to-build-500-000-house-2p3rt6thv\" class=\"link__RespLink-sc-1ocvixa-0 ivlzOw\" rel=\"noopener\">Se\u00e1n FitzPatrick<\/a>, the former Anglo chairman, who was charged with misleading auditors is now regarded as the longest criminal trial in the state. It lasted some nine months.
