{"id":32353,"date":"2022-06-02T02:12:46","date_gmt":"2022-06-02T02:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjstudents.com\/?p=32353"},"modified":"2022-06-02T02:12:46","modified_gmt":"2022-06-02T02:12:46","slug":"omara-opposes-clean-slate-legislation-continues-to-blast-albany-democrats-pro-lawlessness-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjstudents.com\/index.php\/2022\/06\/02\/omara-opposes-clean-slate-legislation-continues-to-blast-albany-democrats-pro-lawlessness-agenda\/","title":{"rendered":"O\u2019Mara opposes &#8216;Clean Slate&#8217; legislation: Continues to blast Albany Democrats\u2019 pro-lawlessness agenda"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<\/p>\n<p>\n            Another day in\u00a0Albany, another pro-criminal policy pushed by one-party rule.          <\/p>\n<div>\n      <!-- theme template:  --><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><b><span><span>Albany, N.Y., June l\u2014<\/span><\/span><\/b><span><span>State Senator Tom O\u2019Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) today voted no on legislation approved by the Senate that would erase criminal records from public view and provide no protections for victims or law-abiding New Yorkers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The Senate earlier today, by a vote of 38 to 25, with every member of the Senate Republican conference voting in opposition, advanced legislation that O\u2019Mara and his GOP colleagues said continues an alarming trend by the Senate Democrat majority to keep enacting pro-criminal policies despite rising rates of criminal violence statewide.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>The so-called \u201cClean Slate\u201d legislation (S1553C) would seal felony records seven years after a sentence is complete and after three years for misdemeanors.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>O\u2019Mara said, \u201cAnother day in\u00a0Albany, another pro-criminal policy pushed by one-party rule.\u00a0New York\u00a0is facing a crisis of rising crime and lawlessness the likes of which we have not seen in years. The crisis, caused in large part by Democrat-led cashless bail and other soft-on-crime policies, could be stopped today if they stopped pushing a radical, pro-criminal agenda. These new actions once again prove that Albany Democrats care more about protecting violent felons and dangerous individuals than they do victims and law-abiding New Yorkers.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>A recent\u00a0Siena Research Institute\u00a0poll showed that New Yorkers view crime as the most important issue confronting the state.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>In 2019, Senate Democrats completely reversed years of public safety progress by turning the state criminal justice system on its head. Over the past three years, the passage of dangerous cashless bail laws, discovery law changes, parole \u201creforms,\u201d and other pro-criminal policies has become commonplace in Albany.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Senate Republicans have responded by sounding the alarm and continuously calling for the enactment of measures to restore public safety in\u00a0New York.\u00a0 The Senate GOP public protection plan, part of a \u201cTake Back New York\u201d agenda released earlier this year, includes:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u25cf\u00a0Investing in law enforcement and fighting against Democrat efforts to \u201cDefund the Police\u201d;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u25cf Ending cashless bail, restoring judicial discretion and rejecting dangerous Democrat proposals to erase criminal records;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u25cf Fixing unworkable discovery and \u201cspeedy trial\u201d laws that have turned the state\u2019s criminal justice system into a revolving door for repeat and violent offenders;\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u25cf\u00a0Reforming a broken parole system and refocusing the parole process around the protection and rights of crime victims and their families;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u25cf\u00a0Ensuring that cop-killers, serial killers, child killers, and other dangerous murderers can never be released; <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u25cf\u00a0Heightening penalties for violent and repeat offenders, as well as hate crimes;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u25cf\u00a0Investing in proven mental health, addiction, homeless, and victims\u2019 programs and services; and<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u25cf\u00a0Strengthening and making Kendra\u2019s Law permanent, to ensure that those struggling with mental illness get the help they need.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>[ad_2]<br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nysenate.gov\/newsroom\/articles\/2022\/thomas-f-omara\/omara-opposes-clean-slate-legislation-continues-blast-albany\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[ad_1] Another day in\u00a0Albany, another pro-criminal policy pushed by one-party rule.
