{"id":33798,"date":"2022-07-15T07:10:36","date_gmt":"2022-07-15T07:10:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjstudents.com\/?p=33798"},"modified":"2022-07-15T07:10:36","modified_gmt":"2022-07-15T07:10:36","slug":"nu-system-names-inaugural-class-of-leadership-development-fellows-nebraska-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjstudents.com\/index.php\/2022\/07\/15\/nu-system-names-inaugural-class-of-leadership-development-fellows-nebraska-today\/","title":{"rendered":"NU system names inaugural class of leadership development fellows | Nebraska Today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Sixteen University of Nebraska colleagues have been selected to participate in a new systemwide program that aims to develop the next generation of higher education\u00a0leaders.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caps\">NU<\/span>\u2019s \u201cDeveloping Excellence in Academic Leaders\u201d program, sponsored by the Office of the President together with the system provost and campus chief academic officers, launches this fall with an intensive two-year curriculum that will help participants develop their leadership skills, expand their networks, and explore key issues and challenges facing the University of Nebraska and higher\u00a0education.<\/p>\n<p>The 2022-24 <span class=\"caps\">NU<\/span> <span class=\"caps\">DEAL<\/span> fellows\u00a0are:<\/p>\n<h4>University of\u00a0Nebraska-Lincoln<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Kelli Kopocis, assistant professor of practice in the Durham School of Architectural Engineering and Construction and president-elect of the Faculty\u00a0Senate.<\/li>\n<li>Deborah Minter, faculty senate president and associate professor and director of composition of rhetoric in the Department of\u00a0English.<\/li>\n<li>June Griffin, associate dean for undergraduate education in the College of Arts and Sciences and professor of practice in the Department of\u00a0English.<\/li>\n<li>Martha Mamo, department head and John E. Weaver Professor of Agronomy and\u00a0Horticulture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>University of Nebraska at\u00a0Kearney<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Chandra Diaz, associate dean of the College of Education and assistant professor and advisor of middle-level\u00a0education.<\/li>\n<li>Toni Hill, associate professor and director of the Early Childhood and Family Advocacy\u00a0Program.<\/li>\n<li>Nita Unruh, department chair and professor of sports\u00a0management.<\/li>\n<li>Miechelle McKelvey, department chair and professor of communications\u00a0disorders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>University of Nebraska Medical\u00a0Center<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Howard Liu, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of\u00a0Psychiatry.<\/li>\n<li>Amy Nordness, director of clinical services and associate director of the Munroe-Meyer\u00a0Institute.<\/li>\n<li>Don Klepser, professor and associate dean for academic affairs in the College of\u00a0Pharmacy.<\/li>\n<li>Kendra Schmid, assistant vice chancellor of academic affairs, assistant dean of graduate studies, and professor in the Department of\u00a0Biostatistics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>University of Nebraska at\u00a0Omaha<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Gaylene Armstrong, director of the School of Criminology and Criminal\u00a0Justice.<\/li>\n<li>LaReesa Wolfenbarger, associate dean of the College of Arts <span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span>\u00a0Sciences.<\/li>\n<li>Jason Coleman, director of the School of Health <span class=\"amp\">&amp;<\/span>\u00a0Kinesiology.<\/li>\n<li>Sara Myers, assistant vice chancellor for research and creative\u00a0activity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Over the course of the program, the fellows will hear presentations from<br \/>\nTed Carter, president of the <span class=\"caps\">NU<\/span> system, system vice presidents, and members of the Board of Regents, visit each <span class=\"caps\">NU<\/span> campus to engage with senior leaders, and discuss complex and timely higher education topics\u00a0including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>Strategic\u00a0planning.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Philanthropy.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Higher education\u00a0finances.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Facilities and\u00a0infrastructure.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Opportunities and challenges related to teaching, learning and\u00a0research.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Academic leadership skills, attributes and\u00a0styles.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Building and maintaining diverse and inclusive university\u00a0communities.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThis is a time of immense change and opportunity for our industry, requiring skilled, strategic leadership from people who not only deeply understand the issues, but can set a bold vision for the future and inspire others to come along,\u201d Carter\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur goal with this new program is to develop a deep bench of exactly these kinds of leaders. I am thrilled with this initial cohort of fellows \u2014 talented leaders who are already having a tremendous impact on our students and state, with great potential to do even more to create positive change for our university and all of higher\u00a0education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Applications for the 2023-25 cohort of <span class=\"caps\">NU<\/span> <span class=\"caps\">DEAL<\/span> fellows will open next spring.
