For 25 years, the Center has worked to foster justice and<br \/>\nequity to create safe, healthy, and thriving communities and,<br \/>\nultimately, to transform the justice system.<\/p>\n<p>The Center is an 800-employee, $100 million nonprofit that<br \/>\naccomplishes its vision through three pillars of work: creating and<br \/>\nscaling operating programs to test new ideas and solve problems,<br \/>\nperforming original research to determine what works (and what<br \/>\ndoesn\u2019t), and providing expert assistance and policy guidance to<br \/>\njustice reformers around the world.<\/p>\n<p><u>Operating Programs<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The Center\u2019s operating programs, including the award-winning Red<br \/>\nHook Community Justice Center and Midtown Community Court,\u00a0<br \/>\ntest new ideas, solve difficult problems, and attempt to achieve<br \/>\nsystemic change within the justice system. Our projects include<br \/>\ncommunity-based violence prevention programs, alternatives to<br \/>\nincarceration, reentry initiatives, and court-based initiatives<br \/>\nthat reduce the use of unnecessary incarceration and promote<br \/>\npositive individual and family change. Through this programming, we<br \/>\nhave produced tangible results like safer streets, reduced<br \/>\nincarceration, and improved neighborhood perceptions of<br \/>\njustice.<\/p>\n<p><u>Research<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Researchers at the Center conduct independent evaluations,<br \/>\ndocumenting how government systems work, how neighborhoods<br \/>\nfunction, and how reform efforts change things. We believe in the<br \/>\n\u201caction research\u201d model; accordingly, our researchers provide<br \/>\nregular feedback on the results of the Center\u2019s own operating<br \/>\nprograms. The Center has published studies on topics including<br \/>\nyouth in the sex trade, reentry, gun violence, and drug treatment<br \/>\nas an alternative to incarceration. Our researchers have been<br \/>\npublished in numerous peer-reviewed journals.<\/p>\n<p><u>Policy &amp; Expert Assistance<\/u><\/p>\n<p>The Center provides hands-on, planning and implementation<br \/>\nassistance to a wide range of jurisdictions in areas of reform such<br \/>\nas problem-solving courts (e.g., community courts, treatment<br \/>\ncourts, domestic violence courts), tribal justice, reducing<br \/>\nincarceration and the use of fines\/fees and reducing crime and<br \/>\nviolence. Our current expert assistance takes many forms, including<br \/>\nhelp with analyzing data, strategic planning and consultation,<br \/>\npolicy guidance, and hosting site visits to its operating programs<br \/>\nin the New York City area.<\/p>\n<p><strong>THE OPPORTUNITY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Center is seeking a Managing Director of National<br \/>\nInitiatives &amp; Research to lead and expand the Center\u2019s<br \/>\nresearch, expert assistance, policy offerings and impact (currently<br \/>\n100 team members and a $16 million budget). Reporting to the<br \/>\nExecutive Director, this inaugural position will be part of the<br \/>\nCenter\u2019s nine-person executive team, partnering with the Executive<br \/>\nDirector and other organizational leaders to transform systems<br \/>\nthrough research, policy, and expert assistance that results in<br \/>\nsafer homes and streets, reductions in incarceration, and improved<br \/>\nneighborhood perceptions of justice in communities both nationally<br \/>\nand internationally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><u>Strategic Growth and Oversight<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop and oversee a cohesive strategic vision for broadening<br \/>\nand deepening the Center\u2019s research, policy, and expert assistance<br \/>\nfootprint at the federal level and with state and local justice<br \/>\npolicy reform actors across the country<\/li>\n<li>Align existing work of the research, policy, and expert<br \/>\nassistance, working together to increase the Center\u2019s national<br \/>\nfootprint through strategic deployment of resources<\/li>\n<li>In collaboration with the Center\u2019s Director of Development,<br \/>\ncreate a fund development strategy that supports strategic growth;<br \/>\nplay a key role in implementation of the fund development<br \/>\nstrategy<\/li>\n<li>Develop and maintain strategic partnerships that create<br \/>\nopportunities for revenue-generating lines of business\/service<\/li>\n<li>Oversee the development of issue-oriented campaigns and events<br \/>\nto advance the Center\u2019s national program, policy, and\/or research<br \/>\nagenda<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Thought Leadership<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Serve as a leading voice of the Center and thought leader in<br \/>\nthe field of justice reform at the cutting edge of innovative<br \/>\npractice and research, identifying emerging issues and staying<br \/>\nabreast of new developments<\/li>\n<li>Advance the Center\u2019s position as an expert on criminal justice<br \/>\nreform, continuing to position the organization as the \u201cgo to\u201d for<br \/>\npolicy expertise, research, and innovative programming at the<br \/>\nfederal, state, and local level<\/li>\n<li>Amplify the Center\u2019s work and ensure it contributes to the<br \/>\nnational and international dialogue about justice reform<\/li>\n<li>Convene and host justice reform actors from across the<br \/>\ncountry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Network\/Partnership Development<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop and steward meaningful relationships with local, state,<br \/>\nand federal policymakers and judicial advocates (including those in<br \/>\nadvocacy organizations, think tanks, and academic institutions),<br \/>\nworking collaboratively with a range of constituencies from<br \/>\ngovernors to district court judges and researchers to<br \/>\nadvocates<\/li>\n<li>Scale the Center\u2019s programming by working collaboratively with<br \/>\nstate and local leaders across the country, primarily those outside<br \/>\nof New York and New Jersey, on applying Center programs and best<br \/>\npractices in their jurisdictions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>Leadership and Management<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lead, manage, and support a group of seasoned, expert directors<br \/>\nleading the research, policy, and expert assistance arms of the<br \/>\nCenter\u2019s work<\/li>\n<li>Develop and implement a plan for strategic expansion that<br \/>\naligns with overall strategy to broaden and deepen the Center\u2019s<br \/>\npolicy, reform, research, and expert assistance footprint at the<br \/>\nfederal level and with state and local policy justice reform actors<br \/>\nacross the country<\/li>\n<li>Oversee and build an Office of the National Initiatives &amp;<br \/>\nResearch, providing consultation and guidance on direct reports\u2019<br \/>\ndecisions related to personnel, finance, and programming<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Qualifications:\u00a0<\/strong>The ideal candidate will<br \/>\nhave an advanced degree with a minimum of 12 years of demonstrated<br \/>\nsuccess in leadership, managerial, problem-solving, and strategic<br \/>\nplanning capabilities as a senior executive in the nonprofit and\/or<br \/>\npublic sectors. Must have a demonstrated commitment to the Center\u2019s<br \/>\nmission and values as well as a working knowledge of and<br \/>\ncredibility in criminal and\/or civil justice and broader social<br \/>\njustice matters. Exceptional writing abilities together with<br \/>\noutstanding oral presentation and public speaking skills are<br \/>\nrequired. Candidate must be an outgoing, proactive, skilled<br \/>\ncommunicator able to establish and maintain strong relationships<br \/>\nwith a range of stakeholders and have a zest for collaboration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compensation:<\/strong>\u00a0Salary range<br \/>\nis\u00a0$225,000 &#8211; $250,000.
