He then stands up and tries to move around, but his feet are cuffed to the bench, causing the stumbling<b> <\/b>man to fall onto his stomach and exclaim \u201cthat hurt\u201d to himself.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">Two officers enter the frame to help him back up to his seat as he yelps from the pain of his fall.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">The man asks whether he\u2019s bleeding and requests to call emergency services. He stands back up, and one officer places her hand on his shoulder to prevent him from falling over. The other officer explains to the bound man that if he steps forward, he will fall again because his feet are cuffed to the bench.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">The man temporarily sits before standing again and mumbling requests when Grismore enters the frame from the right in a baseball cap, peach T-shirt and dark shorts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">Grismore lifts his right leg and makes contact with the handcuffed man\u2019s torso, pushing the man back into a seated position.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">\u201cSit down! All the way down,\u201d Grismore commands.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">The man mumbles about a camera and stands up one more time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">Grismore gives him another forceful kick near the groin area, sitting the man back down.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">\u201cOkay. I got him. I got him. He kicked me,\u201d the man said to one of the officers. \u201cHe\u2019s so much in trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">Grismore enters the frame again to place a hood over the man\u2019s head, with Grismore alleging that the man tried to spit at him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">The other two officers readjust the man\u2019s cuffs, reposition him and leave him sitting down with the hood over his face before the clip ends.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p><span class=\"font--article-body font-copy hide-for-print ma-0 pb-md db italic interstitial\"><a target=\"_blank\" data-qa=\"interstitial-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2022\/08\/26\/texas-handgun-young-adults-judge\/?itid=lk_interstitial_manual_27\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas can\u2019t bar adults under 21 from carrying handguns, federal judge rules<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">Grismore\u2019s actions have drawn rebukes from local Republicans and Democrats, uniting the parties in calling for Grismore to remove his name from the November ballot.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">Grismore won the Republican nomination for sheriff Aug. 9, the same day that the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/countycourier.net\/2022\/08\/sheriff-candidate-suspended-for-assaulting-detainee\/\" rel=\"noopener\">County Courier<\/a> broke the story of the allegations. He also won enough write-ins to appear on the Democratic ticket.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">On Aug. 11, the Franklin County Republican Party denounced Grismore\u2019s actions and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/franklincountyvtgop\/posts\/pfbid02qKE5paFk1L53P5LoptKh5rpmEYDgJdSdF3GSTx8arWeyc2cKQt78B7T7ZMMpKHb9l?__cft__[0]=AZXHW-uQNHMbJ3uDT3sc22GkXbCFacPfwARddD6YSVxnJfmG6ckVnjuxc98w1T8QXbcbEG8QG7FEloK6msK1EXBfAlcikI7vOCg04FDGnxDCC1iLbWtpBwmA_2fteF7ZqxR_R9eA66mgtSOOMpjhe2aV0ETn9J-uMjwg10XPSfko1g&amp;__tn__=%2CO%2CP-R\" rel=\"noopener\">called on him to drop out of the race<\/a>. The <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/fcvtdems\/posts\/pfbid02trRzg9mAaEgib6LKeoPVScQaeaGfK2ScgQcVkRxS6Cw6dkAPnYoLbQaG5QtPZwXil?__cft__[0]=AZX274yFFky8ZmAygdcGpGm7-xVt-HUX_Gkn6bE0pFZqJ4IL-OKmq4tfRc8zG08fauivd48qCrjkyRmC5xkiJTMT7Gcw8sJAP87hGWd4bLp3NsjXJ2AiCa3PxTUxCk0ZZL9d6sEy-le202mn5Iny-ifw&amp;__tn__=%2CO%2CP-R\" rel=\"noopener\">Franklin County Democratic Party<\/a> on Wednesday also asked Grismore to withdraw, pointing to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/legislature.vermont.gov\/statutes\/section\/17\/049\/02412?fbclid=IwAR1YBHcjicU44U52avmliwrzWuIUoB96zAeNZgMJc7THan4vr31WxVpCb2U\" rel=\"noopener\">a law<\/a> that would allow Vermont Secretary of State Jim Condos (D) to remove Grismore from the ballot if the candidate requested the move.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">The deadline for Grismore to drop out of the race was Aug. 19, and there is no indication that he has requested a withdrawal under the law noted by the Democrats.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">The Vermont secretary of state\u2019s office didn\u2019t immediately respond to a request for comment early Saturday evening.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">Franklin County GOP Chairman Joe Luneau told investigative outlet <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/vtdigger.org\/2022\/08\/22\/deputy-caught-on-camera-kicking-person-in-custody-ignores-calls-to-exit-franklin-county-sheriffs-race\/\" rel=\"noopener\">VTDigger<\/a> that he would like to see Republicans and Democrats collaborate to back a write-in candidate for sheriff.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">Republican Zach Weight told <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mynbc5.com\/article\/bipartisan-calls-for-sheriff-candidate-to-withdraw-over-groin-kick-video\/40901211#\" rel=\"noopener\">MyNBC5<\/a> that Grismore\u2019s name on the ballot \u201csets a bad tone.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">Democrat John Lavoie, a deputy Franklin County state\u2019s attorney who is running against Weight, told MyNBC5 that the state could remove Sheriff Grismore from office.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-body\" data-qa=\"article-body\">\n<p data-qa=\"drop-cap-letter\" data-el=\"text\" class=\"font-copy font--article-body gray-darkest ma-0 pb-md\">\u201cI can\u2019t imagine that Capt.
