{"id":35514,"date":"2022-09-06T00:03:28","date_gmt":"2022-09-06T00:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cjstudents.com\/?p=35514"},"modified":"2022-09-06T00:03:28","modified_gmt":"2022-09-06T00:03:28","slug":"blampied-receives-top-psychology-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cjstudents.com\/index.php\/2022\/09\/06\/blampied-receives-top-psychology-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Blampied Receives Top Psychology Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> [ad_1]<\/p>\n<div id=\"article\">\n<div class=\"story-top\">\n<p>           <span class=\"byline\"><b>Tuesday,  6 September 2022, 10:14 am<\/b><br \/><b>Press Release: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/info.scoop.co.nz\/New_Zealand_Psychological_Society\" rel=\"noopener\">New Zealand Psychological Society<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p>Work spanning from treating infant sleep disorders to how<br \/>\nsurfing could help prevent young people from heading toward<br \/>\ncriminal lives, has seen one of New Zealand\u2019s top<br \/>\nacademics receive a prestigious psychology award.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/img.scoop.co.nz\/stories\/images\/2209\/_d7qfcwrkrrb8wtq.jpg\"\/><\/figure>\n<p>Emeritus<br \/>\nProfessor Neville Blampied has been awarded the triennial<br \/>\nHunter Award by the New Zealand Psychological Society,<br \/>\nacknowledging his lifetime of scholarship, research, and<br \/>\noutstanding contribution to his profession.<\/p>\n<p>Professor<br \/>\nBlampied founded \u201cThe Good Nights\u201d project, which<br \/>\nfocused on treating sleep problems in children with autism<br \/>\nspectrum disorder (ASD) and rare genetic neurodevelopment<br \/>\ndisorder. He also collaborated in programmes like one that<br \/>\nshowed surf therapy could help rangitahi at risk of a<br \/>\ncriminal future.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Blampied has also worked<br \/>\nwith M\u0101ori academics to extend New Zealanders\u2019<br \/>\nunderstanding of science.<\/p>\n<p>Tania Anstiss, the<br \/>\nPsychological Society\u2019s president, says there can be few<br \/>\nNew Zealand psychologists who have not been influenced by<br \/>\nProfessor Blampied\u2019s teaching and he is internationally<br \/>\nrenowned.<\/p>\n<p>The society also honoured Dr Iain McCormick,<br \/>\nwho received the quadrennial Jamieson Award for his<br \/>\ncontribution to industrial and organisational<br \/>\npsychology.<\/p>\n<p>Dr McCormick\u2019s works spans 40 years,<br \/>\nstarting in the Department of Justice, including several<br \/>\nsenior management roles overseas, and then private practice<br \/>\nin New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>Dr McCormick developed the innovative<br \/>\napplication of Schemas-based work for coaching psychology<br \/>\nand published a book on that this year.<\/p>\n<p>Tania Anstiss<br \/>\nsays Dr McCormick has undertaken a wide range of unpaid work<br \/>\nfor years and during the COVID-19 lockdowns he provided pro<br \/>\nbono coaching to the organizational psychology<br \/>\ncommunity.<\/p>\n<p>The society presented three other awards at<br \/>\nits annual meeting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dr Agnes<br \/>\nSzabo<\/strong> received the GV Goddard Early Career Research<br \/>\nAward for extensive published research on environmental<br \/>\nsupport for health and wellbeing, focusing on the critical<br \/>\nrole of secure and sustainable housing for older adults.<br \/>\nThat was followed by an influential paper on the role of<br \/>\ninformation technology in promoting social connectedness and<br \/>\nwellbeing among older adults.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cherry<br \/>\nReihana<\/strong>, a doctoral candidate in clinical<br \/>\npsychology at the University of Auckland, received the<br \/>\nKarahipi Tumuaki President\u2019s Scholarship. She is exploring<br \/>\nmate ikura roro (stroke) using kaupapa M\u0101ori methods of<br \/>\nresearch to qualitatively examine M\u0101ori narratives and<br \/>\nexperiences post-stroke. The research is expected to reveal<br \/>\npathways of healing for M\u0101ori.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sharn<br \/>\nManga<\/strong>, a doctoral candidate at Massey University,<br \/>\nreceived the Postgraduate Student Social Justice Research<br \/>\nScholarship. She is exploring ways to minimizing rangitahi<br \/>\ninvolvement with the youth justice system.
