Walter DeKeseredy, director of the Center for Research on Violence at WVU and professor of sociology, has been named as an ASC Fellow by the Executive Board of American Society of Criminology, the highest honor bestowed by the society for outstanding contributions in the field of criminology.

“This is certainly great news for Walter, but also for our criminology program, the department, college and university,” said James J. Nolan, chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.

DeKeseredy has published 27 books, 120 refereed journal articles and 90 scholarly book chapters on issues such as woman abuse, rural criminology and criminological theory.

His most recent books include “Contemporary Critical Criminology” and “Woman Abuse in Rural Places.”

DeKeseredy will receive the award at the 2022 Annual ASC Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. The ceremony will be held Wednesday, Nov. 16, in Marquis Ballroom A of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel.
