++THE POSITION++

The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is looking to fill a Probation/Parole Officer position within Juvenile Probation. This position is open to different levels of experience/qualifications and could be hired into the Probation Officer (PO), Senior PO, or the Career PO level. This position will provide supervision to juvenile male clients under the jurisdiction of the Hennepin County District Court who reside within North Minneapolis or within the Northern suburbs of Hennepin County. This position will work towards client change as well as victim and public safety through a combination of client assessments, individualized case planning, and supervision strategies matched to client need and risk.

Probation/Parole Officer salary: $57,185.35 – $85,778.03 Annually
Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $60,044.62 – $90,066.93 Annually Probation/Parole Officer, Career salary: $66,199.19 – $99,298.79 Annually *_Location and hours: *_This position is hybrid and will be performed both onsite at the Penn Station office located at 1256 Penn Avenue North Minneapolis, MN 55441 and remote as job duties require. Work hours and days are generally 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.

New employees who are hired into remote or hybrid positions between January 2, 2022 to December 31, 2024, will receive __$500 toward the cost of establishing consistent internet connectivity, payable upon completion of 6 months of employment.

Effective September 1, 2021, all new job offers are conditional based on the candidate being fully vaccinated for COVID-19. “Fully vaccinated” means 14 days after receiving the second dose in a two-dose vaccination series approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on a full or emergency-use basis, or 14 days after receiving a single-dose vaccine approved by the FDA on a full or emergency-use basis. After a conditional job offer is made, the candidate must show proof of full vaccination prior to their start date. A COVID-19 vaccination card from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a vaccination record from your doctor’s office, or a personal digital vaccination record constitutes sufficient “proof.” The candidate must also attest they are vaccinated by completing a form on the first day of employment. In this position, you will:

  • Provide active case management with a variety of caseload contact standards, while participating and collaborating in multi-disciplinary teams and actively working with collateral contacts.
  • Evaluate client risk and needs utilizing objective assessments and other screening instruments; interpret and assess the information to develop and adjust supervision and/or case plans, and make referrals for treatment or programming based on client risks and needs.
  • Plan intentional, targeted visits, including field/home/treatment visits, with clients to work on case plan goals, skill development and risk reduction.
  • Provide tools and treatment through an ongoing collaborative, person-centered, and strength-based relationship with the client to help build a support system that positively impacts the client’s well-being and promotes success with supervision.
  • Interface with the court hearing process by writing reports for the court and court partners, attending hearings and defending recommendations, and providing testimony.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of a wide variety of case activity utilizing department and other data systems.
  • Coach client compliance with court ordered conditions.
    • Individuals hired at the *_PO level *_must demonstrate an ability to supervise a caseload with the least complex cases within the unit and build proficiency and competency with essential functions of the position through formal and informal training, and perform the duties listed above.
    • Individuals hired at the Senior PO level must operate with limited oversight and demonstrate an ability to actively case manage more complex cases, independently developing/adjusting supervision and/or case plans and defending decisions independently in Court, and perform the duties listed above.
    • Individuals hired at the Career PO level must demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit, are proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices, and may stand in for a Corrections Unit Supervisor (CUS) to coach Senior PO- and PO-level peers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.

    • Associates degree in any field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
    • Bachelor’s degree in non-related field** and** two or more years of relevant full-time equivalent approved, related paid or volunteer experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
    • Bachelor’s degree in one of the below areas and one or more years of full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
    • Master’s degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including the completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program).
    • The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
  • For hire as *_Probation/Parole Officer, Senior, *_one of the following:
    • Associates degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
    • Bachelor’s degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.

Individuals convicted for any level of Criminal Sexual Conduct are disqualified from being hired into any position within the DOCCR under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Other past involvement with the criminal court system will not automatically disqualify you from working at the DOCCR; individual circumstances are reviewed and evaluated confidentially.
