Local voters will soon see CTE Millage Renewal on the May ballot – The Morning Sun

Voters will soon be able to vote on the renewal of the Gratiot-Isabella Regional Education Service District (RESD) Career and Technical Education (CTE) millage.

The CTE Millage Renewal would continue to provide support and funding for CTE programs at Gratiot-Isabella Technical Education Center at the Alma and Mt. Pleasant campuses. It also further supports similar programs at schools around the mid Michigan area, including Alma, Ashley, Beal City, Breckenridge, Fulton, Ithaca, Morey Flex Tech, Mt. Pleasant, Odyssey, Sacred Heart, Shepherd, and St. Louis.

The millage would also maintain the 1.0 Mill that has been levied for the pat 10 years, meaning that taxes likely won’t be raised as a result of the renewal.

The high school students of Gratiot-Isabella RESD would continue to benefit from the renewal.

“The majority of high school students begin CTE courses during their junior and/or senior years,” and FAQ about the CTE Millage Renewal said. “The millage helps allow local districts to send students to the CTE consortium programs. Students engage in a hands-on learning environment with state-of-the-art and industry standard equipment.”

The programs supported by the CTE Millage Renewal includes accounting, agri-science, automotive technology, business management, construction trades, cosmetology, criminal justice, culinary arts, digital media, education, electronics, graphics/printing, health careers/CNA, interior design, machine trades, marketing, mechatronics, small engines, technical drafting/CAD, and welding.

Community members can vote on this issue on Tuesday, May 3.
