The role

Deakin Law School (DLS) is a leading provider of legal education that equips the next generation of lawyers and legal professionals for global careers. DLS incorporates a diverse range of study and research areas including intellectual property, corporate governance, cyber law, health law, sentencing and criminal justice, migration law, energy and natural resources law as well as all the core legal units. DLS also incorporates specialised law clinics operating as a community legal centre that offers students an important opportunity to work under supervision on real cases with real clients.

We currently have two exciting opportunities for experienced legal professionals or academics to join the School in continuing positions where the successful candidates will undertake teaching, research and program development, primarily in the areas of Corporate and Commercial Law.

You will be actively involved in teaching, including making significant contributions to innovative teaching, and carrying out activities to maintain and develop your scholarly research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession. If successful in obtaining a position, you will be required to undertake research, and publish in quality, internationally-ranked journals. You will be involved in the research of the Law School, and participate in external competitive research funding activities. You will be involved in academic and professional service and engagement, industry partnerships, and professional activities that will enhance the scholarly reputation of the University.

To be successful, you will have:

• A PhD/terminal degree in law and other relevant qualifications and experience.
• An excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including experience in curriculum design.
• An emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications and/or success in obtaining external research funding.
• The ability to make a contribution to community engagement in relation to research and teaching.
• The capacity to contribute to leadership in teaching, research and/or administration.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.
• A commitment to fostering relationships with research, community, industry, government, and professional partners and with other higher educational institutions.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• Deliver learner-centric, research-informed teaching practices across different levels / modes of delivery.
• Contribute to the review of units and courses and implement refinements.
• Provide clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to learners, monitoring and adapting assessment practices to facilitate and improve learning outcomes.
• Develop effective assessment tasks and rubrics at the Unit level to improve learning outcomes.
• Initiate, design and conduct high-quality research activities generating high impact outputs.
• Widely communicate research outputs to the discipline, the profession, other sectors and the community, nationally and internationally, ensuring impact in the field and the community.
• Support research funding applications that influence policy, strategy or translate into real world impact.
• Build a national reputation, based on developing a focused body of work recognised for quality, excellence and impact.
• Assist in the development and implementation of the University’s strategic agenda through formal and informal leadership and contributing to the delivery of core outcomes.
