Until reality sets back in.
“Honestly, there is no justice for an incident like this. Because we’ll still be living with whatever happened and the memory of that for the rest of our lives,” said Aditya.
In December, their lives changed forever. Their son, 7-year-old Pronoy, was hit and killed as he was leaving Albuquerque’s River of Lights.
“This incident has left a very big hollow in our lives which unfortunately will never be filled,” Aditya said.
U.S. Marshals and APD announced the arrest of the suspect in the case, Sergio Almanza, Monday.
“I wish we could just go back and reverse this whole thing. Unfortunately, that’s not gonna happen and this doesn’t enable that to happen,” said Aditya.
The family knows they’re still facing an uphill battle in the judicial process. Their fear is that the suspect will get a minimal sentence.
“It’s about the message that you send to the community. And if someone does something like this and gets away with a minimal sentence, that I think sends a very wrong message,” said Aditya.
But they won’t be in Albuquerque to see the process play out. The family decided to move back to the East Coast.
“It has become very difficult for us to live in Albuquerque, consider ourselves safe, I mean we have almost stopped going out honestly. And also this house, which is filled with his memories.”
A place that has become – just too painful.
“All his memories, good memories as well, are somehow tinged by what happened that night. And it’s just, it’s still hard for us to think of anything positive.”
The family told KOB 4 they’ll move back to New York in a few months, despite all of the positive things Albuquerque has to offer.
