The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office announced one of their deputies, Guillermo Vasquez Jr., died on February 10.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office announced one of their deputies, Guillermo Vasquez Jr., died on February 10. The Sheriff’s Office did not share the cause of death.

Vasquez began his employment at the Sheriff’s Office as a detention officer.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the Sheriff’s Office called Vasquez “passionate, hard-working, and strong-willed.”

The Sheriff’s Office said a hearse carrying Vasquez’s body will be given a law enforcement escort from the Mariposa port of entry on the U.S.-Mexico border to the Martinez Funeral home in Nogales on Monday, February 14, between the hours of 10:30 and 11 a.m.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, February 15 from 10 to 11 a.m.

A GoFundMe for Vasquez’s family had raised over $10,000 as of Sunday afternoon.
