‘No one wants to be a cop these days’; Across Massachusetts, police chiefs say hiring and retaining officers is a challenge

For Attleboro Police Chief Kyle Heagney, hiring new recruits over the past year and retaining current officers at his department has been a “nightmare.”
“No one wants to be a cop these days,” he said. “… Salaries are not equal to their civilian salaries [at] their current position, so a lot of them are telling me that they’d lose money becoming a police officer, they can’t do that.”
