GOP gubernatorial hopeful Jensen on Potter verdict: Has justice been served?

[ad_1]

Republican gubernatorial hopeful, former state Senator Scott Jensen said the Kim Potter verdict leaves him with “a tremendous amount of sadness” and asks, has justice been served?  Jensen says he wonders if a person can make a mistake, with catastrophic consequences, and still be judged innocent of a crime — and says about Potter’s conviction:

“I ask myself, does the consequence make us better?  Does it make our society safer?   Does it root out an evil or an unfairness?”

Others have a much different view, saying even if Potter made an innocent mistake, there must be consequences because she fell short of her duty as a police officer and someone died as a result.  Democratic Governor Tim Walz says “Minnesota has work to do to ensure that a tragedy like this never happens again, and I am committed to continuing that work.”
