— High-profile Attorney Ben Crump spoke to a crowd in Fayetteville Thursday.

“Let them know Jason Walker matters,” said Crump, beginning a chant.

He’s representing the family of Jason Walker who was killed by an off-duty Sheriff’s Deputy.

Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church, the church where Walker grew up, reached its capacity with COVID-19 protocols Thursday, about 100 people inside.

The Fayetteville community showed its support for Walker’s family inside this sanctuary, with a message for police:

“Justice for Jason Walker! Justice for Jason Walker!” chanted the crowd.

Crump has represented families in several high-profile cases involving killings by police – including George Floyd’s murder by an officer in Minneapolis.

Floyd’s brother and nephew were in Fayetteville Thursday night.

Walker was shot to death Saturday by off duty Cumberland County sheriff’s lieutenant Jeffrey Hash.

Hash told police Walker ran out in front of his truck, jumped on it, ripped off a windshield wiper and started bashing the glass.

People who say they witnessed this claim Hash hit Walker with his truck.

Crump and Walker’s mother say they want answers.

“Be truthful. Be transparent. Give due process to Jason Walker’s family the same way you’d give to deputy Hash’s family had the roles been reversed,” said Crump

Crump says Walker’s own mother doesn’t know how many times her son was shot.

“My prayer is there will be peace and most of all justice,” said Janice Walker.

Crump said they will do an independent autopsy.
