QUINCY – A total of 453 students – including 20 Plymouth residents – were awarded diplomas at Quincy College’s 64th Commencement exercises Friday, May 20, at Quincy’s Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Gov. Charlie Baker provided the keynote address, commending graduates for their perseverance as students during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Nobody handed anything to you. You did it the hard way,” Baker said. “Adversity builds character and many of us built a lot of character over the past two years, so congratulations for what each of you has accomplished during this challenging time.”

Baker also offered guidance to the graduates in the form of reflections from his own personal and professional experiences.
“Life is a team sport so as you move forward, choose to be on teams that will give you the best chance to be the very best version of yourself,” Baker said. “Listen to and learn from people with opinions you don’t necessarily agree with. Ask questions – put your degree to work; growth and possibility is about curiosity. Be open to new ideas. And always try to be a force for good.”
The most popular course of study among this year’s graduating class is Business, followed by Criminal Justice and Nursing. Seventy-one graduates have earned membership in the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society. The class includes students from Massachusetts and six other states (Connecticut, New York, Rhode Island, Texas, Tennessee and Virginia) and 25 countries, as well as 15 U.S. military veterans. Seventeen of this year’s graduates are age 50 or older.
