The head of Alabama’s judicial branch was hospitalized earlier this week and is now at home.

“I had a recent health matter that required hospitalization, but I am home and recovering well,” Chief Justice Tom Parker told Alabama Daily News in a written response through his office.

“I expect to continue working from home this week and to be back in the office next week,” Parker, who will be 71 this month, said.

His office did not give details on why Parker was in the hospital.

Parker was first elected to the Alabama Supreme Court in 2004. He was elected to a six-year-term as chief justice in 2018.

Besides leading the state’s highest court, the chief justice is the administrative head of Alabama’s judicial system. The court can make rules about the administration and procedures in all courts, according to the court system’s website.
