Kim Thanks Colorado Governor For Truck Driver’s Reduced Sentence

[ad_1]

KUWTK star Kim Kardashians is becoming politically more involved. The latest is the reduced sentence of Colorado truck driver Rogel Aguilera-Mederos.

Keeping up With The Kardashians alum Kim Kardashian West is known for her beauty, overload of selfies, and fashion line SKIMS but the reality television personality has also voiced her passion to pursue law, especially focusing on criminal justice reform. In December 2021, Kim broadcasted that she passed her baby exam. The mother of four is the perfect example of combining beauty and brain and using her clout for a good cause.

Although Kim doesn’t have a college degree, she has decided to study law from the comfort of her home, on her own terms but supervised. In California, it is not required to obtain a law degree as a precondition in becoming a lawyer. Kim is taking part in the California Law Office or Judge’s Chamber Program as an apprentice and it’s required to do so for four years. After passing the baby exam, Kim has to eventually pass the California state bar exam, which Kim announced she will do this year. The Instagram influencer isn’t just busy with studying law, but also with her fashion line SKIMS, and as Kim has announced, divorcing rapper Kanye West.

According to the DailyMail UK, Kim took to her Instagram stories to thank Colorado Governor Jared Polis after he reduced the sentence of truck driver Rogel Aguilera-Mederos from 110 years to only 10 years. The 26-year-old was driving a truck when he lost control over the vehicle and drove into multiple cars, causing four deaths. He was sentenced to life but shortly after, criminal justice reform advocates started a petition to reduce his sentence. The Governor stated in a letter to Rogel, “The length of your 110-year sentence is simply not commensurate with your actions, nor with penalties handed down to others for similar crimes.”  He continued with, “There is an urgency to remedy this unjust sentence and restore confidence in the uniformity and fairness of our criminal justice system, and consequently I have chosen to commute your sentence now.” Kim has also worked on prison reforms with former President Donald J. Trump.

Kim posted in her Instagram stories addressing Colorado Governor Jared., “Thank you @Govofco for taking action to reduce Mr. Aguilera-Mederos sentence!’ Kardashian said. ‘While his new sentence is 10 years, he will now have an opportunity to come home in five years and be with his son and wife.” Rogel hasn’t been the first, Kim openly advocated for. Prior to that she worked with federal authorities to release Alice Marie Johnson, who was incarcerated for life as the result of a 1996 non-violent drug charge. In November, Kim also publicly spoke out against the death penalty of Julius Jones.

It’s refreshing to see that celebrities, such as Kim from Keeping Up With The Kardashians, use their success to make a difference in society. Although Kim has received some backlash for her clothing line SKIMS, maybe practicing law is really her calling, and perhaps Kim’s fans will see her run for president in 2024.
