Eight promoted at Reno County jail, firefighters recognized

Reno County Sheriff Darrian Campbell announced the promotion of eight employees at the Reno County Correctional Facility as part of an operational realignment.
Joshua Scott recently was promoted to Jail Lieutenant.
Lt. Scott started his career with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office in 2011 as a deputy and was promoted to jail sergeant in 2015. Before his employment with the Sheriff’s Office, Scott served in the U.S. Army in the Military Police. During his employment with the Sheriff’s Office, he has been a Jail Training Officer, JTO Program Sergeant, and has served as a Shift Supervisor.
In the position, Scott will focus on recruitment, facility supervision, and overseeing the jail’s Transportation Unit.
Two officers, Theodore Smith and Kaleb McDaniel recently were promoted to jail sergeant.
Sgt. Smith began his career with the Sheriff’s Office in 2009 and has been assigned as a deputy and Work Release Officer. Smith earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.
Sgt. McDaniel has been with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office for about 10 years. During that time he’s been a jail deputy and been assigned to the Transportation Unit.
Five officers were promoted from jail deputy to corporal.
David Dozier began his career with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office in 2012. During his tenures, besides being a jail deputy, he assisted in leading the Transportation Unit. Before joining the county, Dozier served in the U.S. Army and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Major.
Simon Hiebert has worked for the Reno County Sheriff’s Office for 6 years. He’s also been a jail deputy and briefly the Mental Health Liaison deputy.
Jeremy Stone has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 2012. Stone has been assigned as a Jail Deputy and has trained many deputies in the Jail Training Officer Program.
Matthew Morrill has been employed with the Sheriff’s Office since 2018. During his employment, Cpl. Morrill has served as a Jail Deputy and has also been a Jail Training Officer.
Andrew Yoder began his career with the Reno County Sheriff’s Office in 2010. He has served as a Jail Deputy and is currently one of the agency’s Defense Instructors and a Firearm Instructor.
Fire Department recognizes “employees of the year,” others
The Hutchinson Fire Department held its fourth annual awards banquet on April 9 at the department’s Training Center to recognize outstanding achievements in 2020 and 2021.
The department’s officers submitted recommendations for individuals to receive various awards for outstanding service for both years.
Those included: Rooky of the Year, Kenzie Stroh-Wolfe and Cole Ingham; EMT of the Year, Calen Dunn and Michael Sooter; Firefighter of the Year, Jake Gehring and Martin Swiggart; Officer of the Year, Capt. Chad Allen and Capt. Aaron Walton; and the Fire Chief’s Award, Battalion Chief Rex Albright, Capt. Ryan Winters and Capt. Justin Williams.
In addition, individuals were recognized for being members of special teams that included technical rescue, hazardous materials, tactical emergency medical services, and fire investigations. Numerous company citations and awards of merit also were distributed.
The department also presented “Letters of Appreciation” to several individuals for special assistance over the period. Those included Adam Weishaar, Reno County Emergency Management, for assistance during the Beer and Ice fires, Hutchinson Fleet Services for vehicle maintenance, Nick Hemphill for department photography, and Hutchinson GIS expert Allen Shafer, Hutchinson Human Resources Director Tom Sanders, Hutchinson Finance Director Angela Richard and Hutchinson IT employee Joseph Griffin, all for assistance with the department’s international accreditation.
Hutchinson pulmonologist board certified
Dr. Mohammed Al-Halawani, MD, with Hutchinson Pulmonology Associates located within Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, has been named a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (FCCP).
Fellowships are an honorary designation given to recognize a physician’s service and contribution to their field, community, and the practice of medicine.
Being named a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians demonstrates excellence in chest medicine, dedication to the field, clinical work and research, as well as leadership at the forefront of clinical chest medicine.
Dr. Al-Halawani joined Hutchinson Pulmonology Associates in July 2019 and has treated hundreds of patients dealing with respiratory issues.
These included Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Emphysema, Interstitial lung disease, Lung cancer and Obstructive Sleep Apnea, among other respiratory, critical care, and sleep-medicine-related ailments.
Dr. Al-Halawani completed his Pulmonary and Critical Care training at the State University of New York; and Sleep Medicine training at Yale University. He is board-certified in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Sleep Medicine.
“This designation will provide an opportunity to visit one-on-one with contemporaries throughout the nation to research better ways for us all to treat our patients,” Dr. Al-Halawani stated. “It will allow me to expand my network, nationally and internationally; continue developing professionally; and be a leader in the field of chest medicine. It also will help my practice grow clinically and academically, allowing me to provide the best patient care possible and make full use of new treatments on the drawing boards”.

And in less than three years, he’s already widely respected among his peers for his expertise and innovative treatments in dealing with a growing number of respiratory issues,” said Ken Johnson, Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System president and CEO. “And of equal importance, his patients offer praise for his compassionate bedside manner in treating patients with ailments that are sometimes life-threatening.”
HCF announced two promotions
The Kansas Department of Corrections announced the recent promotion of two individuals at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.
Donald McKenna was promoted to Corrections Supervisor I, effective April 17.
McKenna started at HCF in May 2008 as a corrections officer. He has held the position of Truck Driver for KCI. McKenna is a graduate of Hutchinson High School.
Casey Koob was promoted to Corrections Counselor I, also effective on the 17th. Koob started at HCF in October 2015 as a corrections officer. He also held the position of Corrections Supervisor I. Koob is a graduate of South Albany High School.
Dodge City YMCA hires new directors
DODGE CITY – The Dodge City Family YMCA recently hired Jacque Elkins as the Family Director and Lewis Mize as the Membership Director.
As the Family Director, Elkins will be in charge of the After-School, Summer Camp, Fundays and other family—related programs. Elkins was born and raised in Dodge City and enjoys traveling and sports.
